| Very nice; really like the data that you got on there. Clearly given me some ideas on how to re-build my wps. |

Just guessing, but I would say that these are designed into the desktop bmp or jpg background. You then move the programs and folders to the locations. |

It is one of the gadgets found in the "Gadgets" folder found in WPS-Wizard V0.5.1., which are free WPS classes to add different custom menus to any filesystem object. http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/wpswizard-0_5_1-eng.zip http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/wpswizard-0_5_1-ger.zip |

Hi Cytan, I used Embellish to make the transparencies and overlay the Warp Server logo over the original energy balll background. Most of the data widgets are from Cris' WPS Wizard, the rest xWorkPlace, SysBar/2 and Styler/2 with original widgets or other REXX code. Glad you liked it... working on finishing cleaning up the icons and making a complete set (for other colors as well) and will eventually post it all on Hobbes when complete... - Rob |

Hi! Tha's one of Cris W's Widgets for WPSWizard (or one written by someone else that's available for it - don't recall which). You need to us a proportional font for it to display properly. I changed mine a little using some of the ASCII "graphic" characters to do the lines, which then limits the fonts you can use even further - System VIO works very well though and allows for the smallest yet still readable calendars. As all the widgets are written in REXX, and Cris is kind enough to provide help files with examples as well as references on how to use the extended features of his widget library, you can modify any of the ones included or write your own (such as my HPFS386 Statistics widget in the bottom center display - which is really just a simple kludge that pipes the Cache386 Stats info to a Rexx Queue which parses it and then uses his widget library to build the rest. On a couple of my widgets and the ones I modified, for simplicity and since I was already calling his text display functions, I simpy used ASCII Characters 219-223 (for the solid bars) and 179 & 196 for the solid lines (again System VIO font used on these - many fonts dont similarly map the ASCII "graphics" chars or even have them in their charset). All the drive and memory bar widgets are from WPSWizard though the memory one is taken from his System Info widget (I took out the other info display sections from it - used to display more). His library handles all the bar graph and text widget transparencies - as well as icon display... though a note on icon display using his widgets: his functions only will use to a certain size, and you can scale them to smaller or larger than the default size. I'm planning on using his icon display code to make a status display widget in the future that'll allow things like an on screen window list with icons and status info (something like TOP, but with icons and such). Only problem I currently have is trying to see if there's a way to allow the widgets to respond to mouse focus without having to activate their control window - or with creating a custom control window instead... haven't had time to fool around with that yet, been busy with work and other things, but when I do, I'll post the widget. Another "idea" I had was using either one of the SMART Monitor apps or such to get drive info and statistics and incorporating calls to that in a widget (most people don't have HPFS386 and cant call the Cache386 utility - and I don't have JFS installed to try something similar with it's cache utility - though if someone includes stats from it's output and it's sufficiently consistent to parse with REXX, I or someone else could easily also write a parser to send that info to my widget or one of their own.) -- Thanks everyone for all your comments and such! - Rob |

Easily at least graphically... just a matter of creating icons of the numbers and such for the widget since otherwise its limited to the Warp fonts. The drawing code for much of it is semi-HTML controlled (sent to the function calls that display the text or icons) by the REXX scripts that make the widgets themselves so anyone can do this pretty easily. The rest is all dependent on how customizable the popups can become. Using a separate widget in the same widget group for each date would probably allow it pretty easily, then CTRL-clicking on a number would produce the appropriate pop-up which should be pretty easily tied into such things as Relish or any other REXX-callable utility or app. The only limit there seems to be is in how often a widget needs to be updated in correspondence to it's size (ie: you don't want a widget that takes up 1/4 of the desktop that updates every second but one that size that updates every hour or daily shouldn't be an issue as long as you use Cris' widget timer functions so it's not eating CPU cycles updating for no reason). Hi Rob I don't believe people realize just how much work you have put into your desktop. Just creating the icon and folder theme package for your desktop is a huge undertaking. Correctly me if I am wrong, but creating the icons for your theme involved more than just a few hours. David |

Quite a few more than a few indeed. Kinda monotomous in a number of cases... the original folders were borrowed from another set or eCS and then used for the folder outlines & by the time I was done, I'd pretty much recreated them. Then, some of the Warp Standard icons (Assistance Center, etc), I either recreated the artwork that signified what the folder was (like the Assistance Center "i" in the circle for instance) or pulled it from the original Warp icon, cleaned it up and added it to the new folder. I still have to go back and make all the folders in the set consistent (halfway through I changed the blank folder icons to have smoother edges on darker color schemes so they didnt have as apparent of an outline) and some of them still need smaller versions done (like 20x20, etc). Most already have 40x40, 32x32, 20x20 and 16x16. I'm also finishing a set of just the "identifying" part like the "i" or the TCPIP Diamond on transparent backgrounds so that creating new folder sets by me or anyone else will be pretty easy in the future... and if I can ever replace the dongle I lost for Neon3D I'm going to render some of the art and a new folder set. I also have a really nice Windows icon set I found themes.org or one of those sites that I got permission from the author to turn into Warp icons and redistribute which will also go on Hobbes when it's complete and I finish the missing icons that Warp has and Windoze doesnt.
Hope you all enjoy them - and other than the Windoze one, as they get posted, feel free to modify them and repost the changes or whatever as you wish. I'll include the contact info of the Windoze Icon Theme author so that anyone wishing to re-modify and re-distribute those can ask him personally (and of course the new ones I make for that set, do with as you please). - Robert |
