More than 1 GB RAM. My machine has 1 GB and it runs eCS 1.1 . I think you can suppose 4 GB RAM (the maximum you can address by a 32 bit addressing in the flat model) at least but there is no reason why OS/2 should not support more memory by means of far pointers.

OS/2 isn't the only limiting factor, you also have to take into consideration that not all PC chipsets support large amounts of ram, alot even today are limited to 1gig or less.

- Have you got errors during POST? If you have then your machine is incompatible with the memory chip. Other reasons (damaged chip, bad positioning of the chip in the connector) are less probable.
- Have you run OS/2 on your machine previously? If you haven't then you will need to set "Memory over 64 MB: OS/2" in your BIOS.

Pentium 4 systems with 512 MBs or more memory might have the need for the P4 fix to work proper. If you are runnig with 2x256mb memory, then try to remove 256mb and give it another try to verify if this is the case.

Following page at IBM has some more info, look for p4fix.zip

If it's bad memory; well, try to switch around the memory and running only with 1 module if it's 256mb.

Only if you are running OS/2 v2.x !! Warp and later do NOT require this setting.
