| After a few years of not running OS/2, I have decided to put together an OS/2 box - but I am having installation issues... After a number of unsuccessful attempts to load Warp 4, I thought I'd try Warp 3. It installed mostly fine. I believe the issue is related to the IBM1S506 file. I tried the install with updated disk files (IBM1S506, DANIS506, the FLT files, etc.). The last driver I ('think I') see flashing by (after the ALT-F2 sequence) is IBM1S506.SNP. I have tried the Warp 4 install on both IDE and SCSI only systems. I have the proper SCSI drivers in on disk 1 and in the disk 1 config.sys file. Why will Warp 3 install, but Warp 4 won't? Is the location of the setcopyfromfloppy statement in the config.sys file important? I once REM'd out the IBM1S506.add file from the config.sys file (on the SCSI install attempt), but the install still stopped at this point. Are there any load-order specific lines that must be in place in the config.sys file? Does anything need to be changed on Disk 0? I have followed a number of threads here on OS/2 world and elsewhere (IBM's site, the net, etc.) but nothing seems to get me to where the hard disks (either IDE or SCSI) are accessed by the Warp 4 installation. Regarding my Warp 3 installation. It installed and runs fine, except that my CDROM isn't accessible. Am I simply missing a driver in the \os2\boot subdirectory? Thanks - |

| Should have been the other way around....anyway, what kind of box did you get together? Which version of Warp 4? Get yourself a set of updated Installation Disks from IBM support, the one from the Tpads should do you fine, and try. ciao. |

| Thank you for your reply. I figure I must have messed up my install disks when version 4 wouldn't install, but version 3 did. I have downloaded the updated diskette files and will try reinstalling this evening. Thank you for the link. I am installing/running plain old Warp 4.0. No server or anything. Just the regular Warp 4.0 that came boxed with the VoiceType microphone/headset. That was a long time ago. The install is going into a formerly non-used Slot A Athlon 650 box. I have a Quantum 4.3GB drive hooked up to a DPT 3334UW SCSI controller (w/64MB of cache RAM). I have a SCSI RW CD drive attached to an ASUS SC200 controller. The video card is a Matrox G200. 256 MB of RAM (IIRC). I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again -

| Success! I created the two install diskettes. I had to delete a few files off in order to make room for my 100KB SC200 ADD file. I REM'd out the appropriate lines, but the install still stopped when it came upon the missing files. Since there was no more room on Disk 1, I created an additional unedited Disk 1. When prompted to reinstall Disk 1, I used the one with all the files. That worked and the install completed with no more issues. I have updated my installed version using my latest WarpUP CD (May, 2000). I think the fixpak is version 13. I did all of the other recommended updates, as well as some of the optional updates. Now I just need to scout around and see what else there is to update. If time permits, tomorrow I will figure out how to get the display resolution better. Years ago I had a Sci-Tech display license, but there might be something else to use now. Kirby

Well, good news then since you now can optain a free driver for the specific graphic board you have in your system (as long it's supported by SciTech); but for more info check following url: http://my.scitechsoft.com/navigate.php /Kim |

| Hi, If you want the "latest" freely available (ie, you don't need an IBM Passport Advantage subscription) fixpak for Warp 4, it is Fixpak 15 at: ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/rsu/xr_m015/ The latest freely available Device Driver fixpak is at: ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/os2/fixes/ddpak/xr_d002/ For updating the TCP/IP applications, grab UN_0980 from: ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/tcpip/fixes/v3.1os2andv4.0os2/universal/un_0980/ the latest MPTS (with the 32 bit TCP/IP) requires a few installs, first at: ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/mpts/fixes/english-us/wr08610_conv/ Then the CSF update at: ftp://service.boulder.ibm.com/ps/products/mpts/fixes/english-us/wr08621/ Finally, to fix stability (and a number of other problems) issues with TCP/IP install the Newstack.zip package from Hobbes: http://ftp-os2.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=newstack If your machine has more then 64 Megs of memory, but OS/2 is only seeing 64 megs, install Daniela Engert's Patchldr utility, grab it from Hobbes: http://ftp-os2.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=patchldr For display, your best bet is still Scitech. Hope this helps! |
