1. "Ghost" computer |
|
|
| I'm having problems getting my W2K and OS/2 machines to share SMB shares. The OS/2 machine can connect all day long to the W2K machine, but the W2K machine cannot connect to the OS/2 machine. This is the message I get: "The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error occured: No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time because there are already as many connections as the computer can accept." (To see the actual error: http://outpostbbs.net/os2error.jpg) I recently had to partially reinstall OS/2 due to some tinkering around that I shouldn't have been doing with a production machine. <G> I'm wondering if I have to uninstall then reinstall Peer to get it to work right? I was told something about a "ghost computer" but I wasn't able to find any information where I was told to look. Any and all help is appreciated, but please leave your Windows bashing at the door. Thanks, Sean |

| W2K is consuming all your network sessions. The fix is to edit a single W2K registry setting. I have it here someplace... OK, can't find it, but here's a REXX script that you can run on OS/2 to disconnect the unused W2K sessions. http://www.os2site.com/sw/network/lansrv/net3101.zip

Indeed, that was the exact fix. I had to reboot and then it worked perfectly. Thanks a lot! I do a lot of work on my BBS from this (W2K) machine since it has a larger screen (for now). I've printed this out to a PDF file for future reference. Thanks again, Sean |

I also downloaded that ZIP and have it in the BBS's utilities directory for future use. Thanks for your help also. It's greatly appreciated. Later, Sean
