1. Apache and Virtual hosts |
last updated at 18 Nov, 2004 14:03 (1 times) Been a while ago since I checked out how it works with virtual hosts within Apache for OS2. Earlier it was a drag to get it to work or/and was it ever possible? But what is current status. Does it work as smooth as it does when using Apache within a *nix enviroment? |

| Apache 1.x supports IP-based virtual hosts, which can be a pain under any OS. Apache 2.x supports name-based as well as IP-based virtual hosts. Name-based virtual hosts are the preferred method these days. Setting up name-based vhosts is as simple as creating separate subdirectories under the htdocs root, and adding the following to httpd.conf: <VirtualHost *> ServerAdmin webmeister@examplevhost1.com DocumentRoot /APPS/Apache2/htdocs/examplevhost1 ServerName www.examplevhost1.com ServerAlias examplevhost1.com *.examplevhost1.com ErrorLog logs/examplevhost1-error_log CustomLog logs/examplevhost1-access_log common </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *> ServerAdmin webmeister@examplevhost2.com DocumentRoot /APPS/Apache2/htdocs/examplevhost2 ServerName www.examplevhost2.com ServerAlias examplevhost2.com *.examplevhost2.com ErrorLog logs/examplevhost2-error_log CustomLog logs/examplevhost2-access_log common </VirtualHost> Instant vhost setup. Enjoy. BTW, are you signed up for the Apache/2 mailing list? Check out http://silk.apana.org/mailman/listinfo/apache2. | Ok, above is stated within the httpd.conf, but when the first version of version 2 came I never got it to work within OS2. Linux and others there was never a problem. But, now it sounds like it works as one had the hope for from the first release. |

| Sorry for the late follow-up...just noticed your reply. Yes, I've been using Apache 2.0 since perhaps 2.0.39, I guess. Virtuals have worked since then, and from what I've seen on other platforms (namely, Linux and NetWare), they all function similarly. If you have any toruble setting them up, just drop me a private email. Glad to help.
