| As most people I've read about that there is drivers available to support wireless lan. But, anyone that has tried it out and have an opinion about how well or bad it works? /Kim |

| Well, to answer my own question I found following in comp.os.os2.networking: I have been running my t20 laptop with a cisco 340 wireless card and a linksys access point for a while now. Mostly, I have my laptop plugged into my local network with a hardwired nic. However, after reading Mark Dodel's article on os/2 wireless, I thought I'd give it a try. For the most part, the cisco/accesspoint combination works well. Transmission speed is tolerable, although substantially less than the lan line. It is pretty cool to be able to wonder around the house with the laptop. So far, my only problems are these: I have to remember to reset the wireless hub before I switch to the wireless nic. Usually, I just let the wireless hub sit there actively connected to the network even if using the lan line. I have found that if I don't reset the wireless hub (unplug it for a few seconds), the wireless connection is extremely weak. I haven't figured out what this is about yet, but, it isn't any big deal to reset the accesspoint when I want to go wireless. If I let the laptop sit for a long time with the wireless connection, the laptop goes into an unrecoverable sleep state. This could be due to bios settings or power management settings. I am trying some different configurations to test this one. Using mpts to switch protocol and config.sys settings for the line nic and the wireless nic is a pain. I have written a couple of scripts to automate this process. Other than that, things seem to be humming along with the wireless setup. All in all, it costs me about $200. Linksys accesspoint from Provantage.com for $140, and $70 for a used cisco card on ebay. Keith -- |

| Were you using Warp ver 4? Can it be used (a wireless nic pcmcia ) with Warp ver 3?

| If the drivers supports Warp 3 then it should work out; but I haven't tried so I would double check it before you go and buy some hardware to set up wireless lan. /Kim |

| I have a scsi external cd-rom drive and a scsi pcmcia card. I am looking for a cable for it. Once I am able to buy this cable, I will - hopefully - be able to upgrade my notebook computer to Warp ver 4 (or at least to the latest fixpak for Warp ver 3).

| Have you managed to get network up and run on this system using Warp 3? If so, you could set up a remote network installtions using the network installation feature within Warp 4 from another system. /Kim |

Not yet. I want to set up a little network at home or just between my desktop and notebook computer. I have Laplink for OS/2 on my notebook computer which might help in the future when I switch to an USB printer which would free up the parallel port for the Laplink program. At the moment, I am just looking for the cable. I have places to check out (on and off line).

| I have found an USB printer. It is a Canon S300. It works quite well with OS/2 and the USB basic drivers and printer drivers that I found at http://hobbes.nmsu.edu . The parallel port is now free (the old-er printer will be used with my notebook computer).
