1. WiFi PCMCIA/PCCard and OS/2? |
|
|
Will a wifi pcmcia/pccard work with OS/2? I have an IBM Thinkpad that has 72 meg of ram, 1.2 gig or hard drive, about 120 mhz of cpu speed and OS/2 Warp ver 4 with fixpak 15.

Not really. I managed to get the slots removed somehow. When I click on the pcmcia detect software, it gives a message of the slots not being there (sigh).

| Well, about Os/2 Card & socket services, you can read within the "Technical notes" file in disk 1 (Installation) of MCP2 or from the info icon on Warpcenter. Drivers for Wifi can be downloaded fron IBM support..........of course it has to be a PassportAdvantage deal. ciao. |

I think they are also at the members download at http://www.ecomstation.com and at http://wlan.netlabs.org (at least wifi information on the latter).

| Thanks for the link and information. I think I will try once more to install eCS 1.1 onto my IBM Thinkpad 760EL.

Is there a section of the eCS 1.1 disc that enables one to create installation diskettes to install eCS onto a pc that can not boot from the cderom drive? I tried what I thought was it but it failed. I want to be sure I was trying to use the correct software/program. What was it called/name of the program?

I found the 'makedisc.cmd' file and created the installation diskettes for eCS 1.1. I will try to install eCS 1.1 onto my TP 760EL. I am hoping I can get the wifi or network card to work once it is installed (assuming/hoping that it is installed succesfully).

I have a Thinkpad T23 with eCS 1.1 on it. Would a wifi card work with it? I am still not sure what brand the wifi card is.

I can't speak for the onboard WiFi on any ThinkPads, but if using a card makes sense - this device is good:http://store.yahoo.com/saveateaglestore/09n9863.html?c=ns It's one of the IBM High Rate Wireless LAN PC Cards, w/64-bit WEP data encryption...FRU#09N9864. Works fine with the standard IBM wireless drivers...avail. from SWC or the eCS site... Plus it's under $25.00 - so it could fit a variety of budgets... |

I also have that card and it's now functionning perfect. Just to avoid any unnecessary unconvenience, have a look at my hardship with the same card under the "Networking" section and the heading "Configuring a wireless card"Good luck! |

| Another great card is the Cisco Aironet 350. Download the Aironet 340 drivers from Hobbes (they run the 340 & 350 series). Installation is easy... copy the files (explained in the included readme) into the appropriate folder for MPTS, start MPTS & change your current card (or "No network adapter") to the "Cisco Aironet...", hit "Edit" and type in the wireless group name (IE: Linksys, default, DLink or whatever the wireless router is set to) and restart. - Rob |

I bought a newer Thinkpad; a T23. I am trying to get the Intel wifi pccard to work with it.

Might as well post this here as well. Here's the secret to getting GenMac and XWLan working with wireless PC cards: http://kannegieser.net/~veit/ Go to the directory for test versions link and get cbenable_test.zip and pciconf_test.zip. After many frustrating hours, I came across mention of them on the GenMac gmane forums. They allowed my DWL-G650 card to be recognized on my Thinkpad T21. |
