| This article shows very clear, how stupid are not only dicision-makers in bank industry, but how stupid was IBM decision to not support OS/2, having few-minute' income, starting from 1995, when real promotions for OS/2 have been stopped. Now they have the results: their own traditionally strong sector (banks) go to MS, their reliable SNA communications -- to TCP/IP etc. All these facts mean -- loosing money now, as a consequence of old stupid decision to not support OS/2. I think, instead of paying huge pension to former president and CEO, they have to deduce most of it, to cover current losses ... |

| So much for having a reliable way to get ones money(?). Perhaps the banks are trying to get everyone to use bank/credit cards instead of cash? (then charge user fees, service fees, etc?).

| Another important issue here is that it all comes down to risk. And risk can easy be translated into money, ie how big is the risk that this and that will happened. Example on this also from the bank sector is that even if the customer demands higher security in terms on better security when connecting to bank system. If it's to complicated to force the customer to use password and security tokens then the bank would rather keep the low security instead of loosing customer when migrating to a higher security based system. Less customers as we all know would generate less profit... So the would then go for the lower security since they have calculated the risk. |

| Indeed, banks (and IBM) are that dumb... I supported OS/2 on the (insert name of large US bank in Bill Gate's back yard here) account with IBM for more than a few years. They decided to go to Windows a while back (last year sometime), and all hell broke loose. Rumor has it BG himself took the bank's big kahuna out for a lunch and sold him a bill of goods - to the tune of $10 million woth of Windows licences. But - this outift also choose to go with a pre-release beta product to support their *massive* DNS zoning (in a production environment) ...because it was free I'd put my money in a shoebox, these days... |

With so much going to 'win', I doubt this era would considered the 'age of enlightenment' .
