| since the latest component updates (april + november) my systems didn't boot : Trap 000e NVCHOOK.SYS ver 1.21 I replaced NVCHOOK.SYS with an older version (1.20) and everthing seems to be OK. I 'detected' an undocumented parameter for NVCHOOK.SYS ver 1.21 . "/EX:xxxx" = "size given for exclude file heap" !? Playing around with this parameter my computer boot up again. xxxx < 1230 : Trap 000e NVCHOOK.SYS xxxx = 1250 : succes ! Any idea about this parameter ? Geert |

| Hi geert, after downloading and applying the latest upgrades for Norman Antivirus, I noticed several programs crashed unexpectedly. I did not have the crash on boot you're reporting on NVCHOOK. Yesterday I was enabling Full Hardware Detection at the boot options menu, and suddenly NVCHOOK crashed at boot. Hence my first question: do you have Full Hardware Detection always enabled? Then I REMmed NVCHOOK out of config.sys, so I was able to boot with Full Hardware Detection enabled, and suddenly all the application crashes were gone. Unexpectedly, Norman Antivirus was still working correctly, even with the on-acces scanner enabled. Hence my second question: what is the purpose of NVCHOOK? Are others experiencing these crashes? Is Norman aware of these problems? Thankyou! Cris |

| hei Cris, yes, Full Hardware detectionallways enabled. I also REM'd NVCHOOK before I found that undocumented parameter Purpose of NVCHOOK : I think it will something HOOK; maybe it keep the program running during an update I guess. because the developer can not reproduce some errors they need a max of input! | Hi Geert, I had a reply from Norman, though it's not what I had hoped to see: they say my country (Italy) isn't one of those european countries serviced by their "customer satisfaction" program. I think this is an automated reply, and they probably didn't even read my message. I'll try writing to the support address you sent me... hope they'll reply in english ![]() Thankyou Cris |
