Just an open question. Do you think we will ever see a modern video editing software for eComStation? I kind of dislike when I have to turn to Windows to do such stuff and now I saw an old program (Main Actor for OS/2, of course out of date) uploaded to Hobbes on "incoming", and began to wonder. Is there any Open source project, which could be ported to eCS? Is Main Concept (producer of Main Actor) persuadable to, once again, develope an eCS software?

Hi Mikael

Did I see an update to MainActor on Hobbes recently... aha! it is a "stability patch" also currently in /incoming.

I did see mention of something called ProjectX which I think is a java based video editor but have no idea how good it is or what exactly it does.

Maybe you want to check it out http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/java/apps/mmedia/projectx_v0.90.4.00-2006-03-31.zip

Regards

Pete

There is Virtual Dub that is AFAIK open sourced, it will be great to see VD one day running in native OS/2/eCS.

I downloaded projectX but I don't think it is a video edit software. Seems to be some program to manage multimediastreams, if I got it right.

Virtual dub is really good and would be great to have ported to eCS. But it doesn't have important features, AFAIK, that even Windows movie maker have,( as the big ones, Adobe premiere, Sony Vegas etc) like easy editing clips on a timeline.

Sure it is. It's targeted to MPEG2 though. You can set cut-in / cut-out marks and the program will perform the operation *WITHOUT* re-encoding the material. The most annoying problem is, however, that none of the JVMs on OS/2 will properly support files >2GB.
