| Never tried to connect a IDE disk via USB interface, but guess that the bios is involved as well so might be that your bios has a problem with drives over 80gb, or? /Kim |

I bought the drive this way, internals must be ide, its a maxtor usb 2.0 80gig drive? I'm going to probe my bios for settings I have 2 ide drives besides this attached, may try pulling oneoff for a test, but its doubtful this will help. paul |

they're both 80gigs and both ide i just check bios settings and I don't think taking one out is going to help, I have the primary ide with just a master set ide drive and the secondary ide with a master ide drive and a slave cdrw/dvd maybe there's some parameter I need to set on idedasd stuff to indicate usb device is ide? paul |

| Ok, then it's not a bios problem then; what about smaller drivers connected via USB - would that work out? |

don't have any available, I have managed to get 2 different kinds of multiformat including compact flash to work 1 is 64meg another is 160meg and simultaneously too. |

What is the version of USB on your computer? Do you have the most current version of USB drivers for OS/2? Could you be using 1.1 USB with a 2.0 USB device?
OS/2 Warp-ed to the very end.

i'm using the known lastest, have fixpak this machine up through dec 2,2002 pathces and usbstor.exe from dec 11,2002, all obtained from ecomstation.com this machine has both 1.1 and 2.0 usb and I have tried both, further the drive sttates it backward compatiable with 1.1 as well if one looks at the usbmsd.txt it does not have any parameter for the driver such as /FIXED_DISKS but others in newgroups talk about it. if I set /FIXED_DISKS:1 lvm will not start, get Cannot open the lvm engine if I lset /FIXED_DISKS:0 lvm will start but its says device has corruption then looking at the device it only has 96meg and it is not alterable for creating or deleting volumes |

| You are going the wrong way with this, if there is any problem it is most likely with the USBMSD and not with the IDE drive, a USB MSD is exactly that, a USB MSD.. whatever is internally in the case is irrelevent, it works through USB through MSD and ONLY through MSD. The problem then must be with the MSD driver. If you have a software choice account then you have the ability to create a test case or problem report.. let ibm chew on it.. see what they spit back your way, maybe there is an undocumented feature... but changing any drivers other then the MSD driver or possibly something in the LVM./Drive interface won't matter. it never goes through IDE at all.. so DANI or IBM1s506 won't matter. But it could be like OS2DASD or something like that.. (can't remember the stack drivers off the top of my head) |

Try this link. Good information, and will probably solve troubles. HDD via USB are possible with the regular IBM drivers, but I recommend you study the reame good; there is a listing of the options in config.sys; and there is stated which drivers are needed to get some drivers working. Possibly you've just forgotten to enable one or more.So two things you can try. Good luck! Jonas Buys. www.jonasbuys.easynet.be |

tomleem (Dec 17, 2002 15:35): Have you checked the http://www.os2world.com/usb / http://www.os2world.com/os2usb site ?
I have a HD120GB iomega working ok but...the LVM don't work with it. At begin install USB from Ecs or IBM, with the instrucctions for it, and you have a similar CONFIG.SYS BASEDEV=USBOHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBOHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBEHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBD.SYS /REQ:USBUHCD$,USBOHCD$,USBEHCD$ BASEDEV=USBHID.SYS BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD /V BASEDEV=USBCDROM.ADD In this page you can found this USB driver: (I use this driver) http://cyberia.dnsalias.com/Gfd.Sys.Misc.Htm Search this file CW-USB12.ZIP or goto: http://www.os2world.com/usb/files/cw-usbmsd-v1_2b.zip Unzip the file and copy to c:\os2\boot\ only the files CWusbmsd.* Modify the config.sys and rename REM BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD /V and write this other, very IMPORTAN us it, or not work: BASEDEV=CWUSBMSD.ADD /FIXED_DISKS:1 /FORCE_TO_REMOVABLE /V reset and is ready. But with this driver you can not use LVM.exe, and neither work the small usb keys 64mb, 128mb etc But you can change config.sys, and start with the firts driver,I wait that this problem goto better. Well, now you have not LVM.exe, by this you need the DFsee (hobbes), for clean the new disk, and create partitions more small that 64Gb.Because in this case you can format it us HPFS. I can not create one partition with JFS, because I have not LVM Format your partitions and ready, I create two more small partitions, because without it I don't see nothing. But I don't know why.Made your changes and test. Saludos, Roberto |
