Due to that there is now raisen lots of question if Hobbes will be around or not in the future there is now lots of efforts done to set up alternatives. But, why aren't we looking at what already around? I mean there some great German sites available such as Leo or we can mention the Swedish Sunet that already today mirrors down the entire Hobbes and are connected to the Swedish Backbone network on a 500mb connection? And of course there is the existing Hobbes servers as well to support.

Also, has anyone thought about how much bandwidth the Hobbes ftp uses per month, I mean even someone would set up a new service it would be totally dead service if the download rate would be around a few kb per second.

So lets look into a long term solution instead of short term.

Last time I went and checked all the mirrors that people THOUGHT were up, 75% of them were gone or not working, and none of them had the Hobbes software.

Well, http://ftp.sunet.se/ is one of the fastest mirrors of Hobbes available and I usually go there to download files since Hobbes can sometimes be dog slow for me.

Direct link for the OS2 section:

http://ftp.sunet.se/pub/os/OS2/hobbes/

Give it a try and see what you think.

Yeah, it looks OK.

Doesn't have any submission code of course (way to upload).

And the search appears fairly useless.

But the files seem up to date.

Well, true the search function is really but anything else would be a lie.. and then as you say there is no upload script. I'm not sure what the criteria would be for Sunet to accept external uploads, guess that some university institution would start an OS2.... <grin> guess we need to find some new OS2 users within the campus community
