Since there still are as I see it a high number of user around the world. I once a while wonder where are all the user groups. 3 to 4 years ago I guess that there was some sort of death wish within many user groups since of the announcements made by IBM and as well how they miss behaved regarding their product - OS/2.

But, there are still a lot of pages available to user groups here and there - but are they alive? I would highy suggest that the few user groups alive made a little bit more noice and made some more announcement regarding local activities.

As well I'm not the only one that once a while looks in the Link System section ( http://www.os2world.com/links/UserGroups/ ) after user groups. I've couple of times received e-mail asking why I haven't added some more links to user groups! Well, I could add more, but it would be nice if the active groups could add them self!

Where are they now ?

I guess that the most UG's just exists, nothing more. AFAIK IBM has even cut the cord to a few of them, like the danish TeamDK/2.
IMO the members of are feeling old, they're tired, frustrated and many of them are using outdated hardware - with an old W4+FP9 installed ..... they're at this present state in no shape for another war, not even a single battle.
Live long and prosper...

What would you call "active"? There are quite a few groups left that still hold their regular meetings, but that's it most of the time. When there are "projects" those are usually efforts of individuals rather than a group.

Collaborative works usually end up in all talk and no action since the few who really want to DO something get tired of the others complaining about details and stuff, or they burn out.

What we are really lacking are people who contribute something on a regular basis. It doesn't need to be much, but one must be able to rely on it.

They are here now. The number is so few in any location now that we must communicate in other ways. We depend very much on thewe news and information services;

Serenity has pretty well killed off the OS/2 newsgroups. That was their original intent: to divide up the OS/2 community and siphon off to their own eCS private backyard as many OS/2 users and IBM haters as possible. So many OS/2 users were disillusioned with Serenity's promises and claims regarding eCS that when it was released they simply threw up their hands and said good-bye to OS/2.

THAT's where all the users in the OS/2 user groups have disappeared to.

What is last said regarding the Danish UG? Since I once a while actually visits their homepage to check out if they're still alive. It looks like the still exist from what I can tell, but then again. As you said, the might feel a bit tired. I saw that the norweigan ( http://www.os2bfn.no/ ) usergroup have made a major refresh of their homepage so that is good news. When it comes to the Swedish UG where I myself is a member we're working on to improve the webpage to be more interactive and as well we are trying to get som gatherings ongoing again.

With active I mean that there is a little bit more than just a homepage that get updated once per year . Regarding collaborative works I think that it's great that Warpstock is being arranged and for the future there really have to be some more co-op betwen the groups. So I think it's great that thoose groups that have been involved during the last couple of years have made a huge work! I know how hard it is to arrange such events.

For a start it would be great if one could get that active user group a little bit more aware of each other and establish some sort of regular contact. By that I also think that the few resources that we have can be used in a better way.

When was the last issue of their magazine - Extended Attributes - been released? I am not sure if I had renewed or not but have not received an issue recently.

I will check out their web site to see if it has a way to renew.

Perhaps if Warp users write up their experience with a certain program and/or hardware for OS/2 (or collaborate with someone who can write or can do a survey with/of peoples experiences), they can submit them to them for possible inclusion in future issues(?).

Extended Attributes is the closest thing there is since OS/2 Magazine. I would have paid more if it would keep it being printed.
