I was looking for software to connect two Warp computers (one ver 3 with one ver 4). I was told of a 'lpt network' but they did not mention where to find it. Does anyone know about it?

Check out this thread this should point you in the correct direction. But, be aware of that your printer has to has a network port or that you at least get a network interface to enable it to work via network. I'm using a D-Link 101 interface and it cost around $40.

I have an USB printer. Does that count?

There are hardware interface that would let you convert USB so it can be attached to a normal LPT port. It should work out if the "device" does NOT need any drivers or any other software to work out. I've installed at a friends place a converter from COM to USB and the deviced needed some software and by so only worked under Windows. I'll see if I can find any hardware that might work out, Also check Martin Iturbides USB page at http://www.os2world.com/usb/

My purpose was to copy programs from one computer to another via the parallel port and a laplink/parallel cable. It was not so I could use another printer. Thanks for the information.

Aha, ok - follow you now. Well, try to check MPTS and check if there is any Parallel Port NIC-less adapter available. In WSFeB and MCP/ACP there is one available but I have not tried to set it up, so it would be fun to see if you could set it up and see how it works out.

Look at this page written by Greg Shah from 1998.

http://www.goldencode.com/atlos2/tips/1998_01/0198tips.html

It's excellent and I use it all the time when I have to check/configure my machines. It also contains a full description of how to use a laplink cable between 2 OS/2 (eCS) machines.

I've backed up one machine with laplink cables once when the hdd started to generate CRC32 errors. It took me a while (xcopy, graham utils hpfs-ud, thinlaps installation helped a lot though) but I retrived almost everything before it broke down completely. So it's possible, cause I've done it.

You might try LPTtool from Jan van Wijk:-
LPT tool to transfer files over a parallel port connection or to execute remote commands (REXEC) using a LAPLINK style parallel cable and LZW compression for higher throughput
It's on Hobbes:-

It has worked very well for me in the past.

I did download a copy of it and will also be trying it too as well as a couple of other ftp/parallel port programs.
